Emory Baseball Defeats LaGrange 8-4

Emory University scored five runs in the third inning on Monday night, pacing the offense in an 8-4 win at LaGrange College.

With the win, the Eagles are now 21-15 with three games remaining this season.  LaGrange dropped to 21-20 with the loss.

Emory took an early lead in the game, when Jared Kahn led off with a walk, was moved to second on a Brandon Hannon sacrifice bunt, and scored on a single up the middle from Jared Welch.  The Eagles increased their lead to 6-0 with a five-run third inning, including an RBI bases-loaded walk by Daniel Iturrey, and a two RBI single from Wes Peacock

LaGrange attempted a comeback, scoring four runs off Emory starter Connor Dillman in the fifth inning to cut the Eagles' lead to 6-4.  However, Emory added runs off a Kahn RBI single in the sixth and another RBI single from Welch in the top of the ninth to secure the win.

Dillman earned the win for Emory, improving to 4-3 after allowing four runs, all unearned, on six hits and five walks, while striking out seven over five innings.  Matt McMahon added two innings of scoreless relief, while Graham Bloomsmith earned his fifth save of the season with two hitless innings to close the game out.

Starter Derek O'Kelley took the loss for LaGrange, falling to 1-1 on the year.

The Eagles will begin their final series of the season on Friday, when the team heads to Demorest, Georgia to open a three-game set with Piedmont College at 7:00 PM.  Emory will return home to host Saturday and Sunday games at 3:00 PM against the Lions.
