Emory University junior Kyle Monk has been recognized for his excellence in the classroom and on the field with his selection to the 2016 Academic All-America Division III Baseball First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his current institution.

Monk finished an outstanding junior season for the Eagles, posting career best numbers in several statistical categories including appearances (27), innings pitched (46.1), wins (4), saves (11), earned run average (1.36), strikeouts (42) and batting average against (.212). Monk also registered the third longest scoreless streak in Emory history this season, recording 23.2 straight innings without allowing a run.

In his career, Monk checks in among the all-time best in Emory history, ranking first on the all-time list in saves (29), games finished (58), second in appearances (72), fifth in ERA (2.31) and 13th in both opponent batting average (.236) and strikeouts per nine innings (7.74).

In addition to being named a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selection, Monk became the first ever Emory recipient, male or female, of the prestigious Elite 90 Award at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships on May 26th. This season, the Cortlandt Manor, NY native has also been selected as a D3Baseball.com Honorable Mention All-American, a D3Baseball.com All-South Region and University Athletic Association First Team honoree, an ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Second Team selection and earned a spot on the UAA All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year. Monk, a Quantitative Social Science in Economics major, was nominated with a 3.95 grade-point average.

Monk and the Eagles recently concluded the 2016 season with a 34-12 overall record and a third straight trip to the College World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin.
