Emory Baseball Sweeps Sunday Doubleheader at Sewanee

The Emory University baseball team collected a pair of wins Sunday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from the Sewanee Tigers in Sewanee, TN.

With the two victories, the Eagles improved to 6-5 overall while the two losses dropped the Tigers to 1-8.

Game 1 – Emory 5, Sewanee 2

Michael Edelman and Jack Moore powered the Eagles to a three-run win in the opener. Edelman drove in three runs in a three-hit performance while Moore pitched into the ninth inning as he earned his first win of 2021.

Edelman began the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning before launching a two-run home run in the sixth. Edelman finished game one 3-for-4 and was one of three Eagles with a multi-hit game along with Drew Bartholow (2-for-4, 2 runs) and Ryan Adelman (2-for-4, Run).

Moore delivered his strongest outing of the season, working into the ninth before being relieved by Mike Golob. Moore struck out six in his 8+ innings of work with his only blemish coming from a two-run home run off the bat of Sully McCreery in the third frame.

Golob picked up his first career save as he was able to work around the lead off walk, striking out one batter in his clean inning.

Game 2 – Emory 9, Sewanee 7

The Eagles scored nine runs on 12 hits to edge out Sewanee in the offensive battle in the second game of the double dip. The two teams combined for 28 hits in the contest.

Edelman and Adelman continued their hot hitting on the day as the duo combined for five hits and four runs batted in.

With the score tied at 4-4, Adelman broke the tie in the fifth with an RBI single to plate Robby Wacker. An inning later, Edelman had a two-run double to score Bartholow and David Shore before Wacker brought home Edelman with a single to make it an 8-4 ballgame.

After the Tigers cut it to 8-6, Adelman blasted his first home run of the season in the seventh to give Emory a three-run cushion. However, Sewanee answered in the bottom half of the inning with a run-scoring double to cut the lead to two.

Aaron Mishoulam was able to shut the door across the final 2.2 frames though with an excellent relief outing. The right-hander recorded seven of his eight outs via the strikeout and only allowed two base runners as he registered his second save of the season.

The Eagles will return to Chappell Park on Tuesday, April 20th as they are scheduled to host Maryville College at 3:00 PM.
