The Emory University baseball team was able to make its return to the diamond in the spring of 2021, combatting the on-going COVID pandemic and managing to play an abbreviated slate of 12 games once the season got underway in mid-March.
The Eagles posted a winning record across the 12 contests, going 7-5 overall after ending the season with a three-game winning streak. A majority of the games were played on the road however the team was able to play twice at Chappell Park in April, going 1-1 at home.
Through 12 games, the Emory offense picked up where it left off in 2019 by averaging a shade under seven runs per game, led by outfielder Michael Edelman. The senior topped all hitters in hits (20), doubles (6), RBI (11), stolen bases (5) and slugging percentage (.620) as he was one of two Eagles to be named to the D3Baseball.com All-South Region Third Team and one of five Eagles to be an All-UAA selection.
Seniors Ryan Adelman and Caleb Shulman aided in the offensive efforts as well as junior Robby Wacker in his first season with the team. Adelman and Shulman each made their second All-UAA team after both appeared in all 12 games. Adelman scored a team-leading 15 runs while batting .348 with two doubles one home run, 10 RBI and five multi-hit efforts. Shulman turned in a .347 batting clip with five doubles and nine RBI while Wacker tied for the team lead with 11 RBI as he batted .333 across 12 games and added six extra base hits including one triple and one home run.
On the pitching side, junior Joey Bock had a tremendous season as he joined Edelman on the All-Region Third Team and garnered his first All-UAA selection. Bock led all Emory hurlers in wins (4), strikeouts (27) and held opponents to a .247 average. In six appearances, Bock went 4-0 with one save and pitched to a 2.19 earned run average.
Sophomore Aaron Mishoulam was once again solid out the pen for the Eagles, recording a 1.23 ERA in six appearances spanning 7.1 innings, tallying three saves and 13 strikeouts.
