NYU Rallies Late to Down Emory Baseball in Series Opener

The Emory University baseball team dropped the first game of the weekend series with New York University Friday afternoon, falling by a score of 6-2 in Brooklyn, NY.

The Violets improved to 14-1 overall and 4-1 in the UAA with the series opening win while the Eagles have now dropped four in a row to stand 14-12 on the year and 1-4 in UAA play.

The game stood scoreless through the first five innings despite several scoring chances from both dugouts. The Eagles finally broke through in the sixth inning, beginning with a solo home run off the scoreboard in left by Steven Hunt before Josh Katz followed with an RBI single later in the frame.

The Violets did their damage in the seventh, scoring all six runs with two outs. NYU worked three straight walks against two Emory hurlers prior to a two-run single that gave the Violets the lead for good.

Senior Jack Moore was dealt a no decision in the defeat as he worked 5.2 scoreless frames, scattering four hits and four walks while striking out four. Junior Aaron Mishoulam was handed the loss as he allowed four runs to score while facing just five batters in his appearance.

Emory tries to snap its skid Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader set to begin at 12:00 PM EST at Maimonides Park on Coney Island.
