Baseball Wins Series Finale at NYU Behind McLoughlin's Gem

Baseball Wins Series Finale at NYU Behind McLoughlin's Gem

A day after the offense had the spotlight, it was the pitching that was on display Sunday afternoon as the Emory University baseball team won the series finale, 5-0, against NYU at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, NY.

Four pitchers combined to throw a two-hit shutout as the Eagles won the series 3-1 over the Violets to improve to 17-12 and 4-4 in the UAA, moving into second place with eight conference games remaining.

Sophomore Tyler McLoughlin twirled an absolute gem as he won his second game of 2022. McLoughlin retired 18 of the 22 batters he faced across six scoreless innings, working around two singles and a walk while striking out seven. His sixth and final inning was a thing of beauty as he struck out the side to reach the seven-strikeout mark for the third consecutive outing.

The Eagles bullpen was just as flawless as seniors Dylan Kahn, Kyle Sulkowski and junior Aaron Mishoulam completed the shutout with three hitless innings.

Junior Jack Masonis and freshman Brok Liu provided the early offensive punch for the Eagles, staking Emory to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Masonis singled home senior Robby Wacker before Liu followed three batters later with a two-run double down the right field line.

The score remained 3-0 until the eighth when the Eagles pushed two more runs home thanks to an RBI single by Wacker and a run-scoring double off the bat of freshman Jack Halloran.

Emory continues its conference road swing next weekend as it travels to St. Louis to take on WashU. The series is set to open Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM EST.
