The Emory University baseball team took a loss on opening day of the 2023 season, falling to Rhodes, 8-1 in the Firehouse Classic hosted by Huntingdon College.

Sophomore Jack Halloran led the Eagles offensively with two hits while former closer Aaron Mishoulam carried a no hitter through four innings.

Emory took an early lead in the second with a home run off the bat of sophomore Brok Liu but failed to score again in the matchup. Mishoulam, the Eagles' closer last season, threw four innings without a hit and struck out six in the first start of his career.

The Lynx answered with five runs in the fifth inning as they finally got to Mishoulam; a double followed by back-to-back singles gave them the edge. Three more runs came in the sixth and seventh and the Eagles were unable to answer.

Emory will take on Mississippi University for Women tomorrow in their second game of the HC Firehouse Classic at 1:00 pm EST.
