Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader With Covenant

After Friday's game against Covenant was postponed until Monday, the Emory University baseball team split the latter two games of its series against the Scots on Saturday in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

The Eagles (6-3) dropped the first game of their doubleheader against the Scots by a score of 6-3 before registering their sixth win of the season with a 10-0 win in a shortened five inning game.

The Eagles will return home for their final game of their three-game series with the Scots on Monday at 2:00 PM in Chappell Park.

Game 1 - Covenant 4, Emory 2

Despite scoring the first run of the game in the fourth inning on an RBI from sophomore Brok Liu that brought home senior Henry Pelinski it was Covenant who took the first multi-run lead of the game as they plated four runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Eagles attempted to mount a comeback in the eighth scoring a run and loading the bases before the Scots managed to sneak out of the inning with two consecutive outs and no more runs for Emory. Senior Joey Bock lasted for 6.1 innings on the mound and in his time pitching struck out six batters while giving up four hits and just two runs.

Game 2 - Emory 10, Covenant 0
After a disappointing finish to the first game, the Eagles came out with a vengeance in the second game going up big early with five runs in the first inning. With one run already scored and the bases loaded, junior Tyler McLoughlin stepped up to the plate and blasted a ball out of the park for a tone-setting grand slam. Sophomore Jack Halloran had a power hitting day of his own as he knocked in a two-run homer in the third inning and followed that up with a solo home run in the next inning to score the Eagles final run of the day. Sophomore Blake Dincman joined in the home run fest as he hit his first dinger as a member of the Eagles in the fourth inning. Sophomore Ryan Reynolds picked up his second win of the season after pitching the entirety of the game in which he gave up just four hits and struck out five batters.
