Baseball Takes Fourth Consecutive Game, Rallies to Defeat Wittenberg 6-4

The Emory University baseball team pulled out a comeback win against Wittenberg University, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Chappell Park.

Sophomore Connor Skertich threw a career-high six innings allowing just two unearned runs and a walk. Senior Ellis Schwartz went 3-for-4 on the day and had two RBI.

The Tigers jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third capitalizing on an error and a base hit. The Eagles were able to answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Sophomore Jack Halloran brought in a run on a sacrifice fly before Schwartz doubled down the left field line to tie the game.

Emory scored again in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice to take a 3-2 lead. Each team was held scoreless again before Wittenberg scored two runs in the top of the eighth.

Senior Henry Pelinski started the eighth inning with a double down the left field line followed by a walk from freshman Zach Wasserlauf. Sophomore Blake Dincman moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Senior Jack Masonis then gave the Eagles the lead once again with a go-ahead double to centerfield. Schwartz brought in another run to give Emory a 6-4 lead.

In his second inning of work, junior Tyler McLoughlin struck out two in the top of the ninth and secured the 6-4 win for Emory.

Emory and No. 1 ranked Birmingham Southern will split a home and away series on Friday, March 10 and Sunday, March 12 and 7:00 pm and 2:00 pm respectively.
