Baseball Drops Saturday Doubleheader to Piedmont

The Emory University baseball team dropped both games on Saturday afternoon to the Piedmont University Lions, falling by a score of 10-5 in the first game and 12-1 in game two.

The Eagles fell behind early in both matchups and were unable to respond to the Lions' offense. Emory moves to 10-7 on the season while Piedmont improves to 12-6.

 

Game 1: Piedmont 10, Emory 5

After a scoreless first two innings, the Lions posted five runs in the third inning to take an early lead. The game was held scoreless again until the sixth inning when Piedmont scored five more runs.

Senior Henry Pelinski drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth followed by three more runs from Emory in the seventh bringing the score to 10-4. The Eagles scored a lone run in the bottom of the ninth, but fell 10-5 in the first matchup.

 

Game 2: Piedmont 12, Emory 1

In the second meeting of the day, the Lions were able to capitalize on another early scoring run taking a 7-0 lead into the middle of the fourth.

The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the fourth on a bases loaded walk but were unable to answer again to Piedmont.

The Lions scored five more runs in the sixth and took the game 12-1.

Emory will travel to Demorest, Georgia on Sunday, March 19 to face Piedmont again at 2 pm in the series finale.
