Emory Baseball Continues to Roll; Downs CWRU 11-1

The Emory University baseball team picked up another mercy rule win in conference play Saturday afternoon, handling the Case Western Reserve University Spartans by an 11-1 margin at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland, Ohio.

Rain once again caused issue with the schedule, forcing a delay over 90 minutes at the start of the game and was the reason the slated second game of the afternoon was pushed to Sunday. The Eagles, winners of four straight games sit at 15-9 overall while the Spartans drop down to .500 at 10-10 and are 2-4 in UAA play.

The two programs will conclude the weekend series with a doubleheader starting at 10:00 AM Sunday morning.

Seniors Joey Bock and Ellis Schwartz were the stars in the second game of the series, leading the Eagles to the 10-run win in eight innings.

Bock tied a career-high with nine strikeouts over his seven scoreless frames to win his second game of the year. He scattered five singles and only issued one free pass. At the plate, Schwartz had another big game with a 3-for-4 effort, collecting a double and home run and drove in four runs.

Through three scoreless innings, the Eagles finally broke through with a four spot in the fourth. Sophomore Jack Halloran and freshman Zach Wasserlauf each had RBI singles with the two other runs coming home thanks to one of four CWRU's errors on the afternoon.

Emory tacked on two more in the seventh with a Schwartz double and an RBI single by senior Henry Pelinski. In the eighth, Schwartz caused more damage with a mammoth three-run home run to right to push the Eagles ahead by 11.

After being held scoreless for the first 16 innings of the series, CWRU put together a brief rally in the eight to score one but could not push across more as the game finished via mercy rule.
