(Apr. 25) -- Sophomore Sean Madgett helped the
Eagles to a first-place finish at the University Athletic
Association Championship. The 36-hole event was held at the Orange
County National Golf Center in Orlando, Fla., and played on the
par-72, 6,748-yard Crooked Cat Course.
Madgett tied for fifth place in the 25-player field, posting a
two-round score of 148 (74-74). Sean ended up tied with teammate
Jeremy Evans and Howard Smith of Carnegie Mellon.
Emory finished the competition with a team score of 591 and
bettered runner-up NYU by 11 strokes. It represented the Eagles'
first UAA title since 2004.
(Apr. 10) -- Sophomore Jeremy Evans paced the
Eagles' effort this past weekend at the Emory Spring
Invitational.
Evans tied for first place during regulation in the 78-player
field, posting a 36-hole score of one-over par 145. After
registering an opening round of 73, Evans fired a 72 on the final
day of competition that tied him for the second-low round of the
afternoon.
Evans advanced to a three-man playoff to see who would claim
medalist honors. In a sudden-death format, Guilford College's Peter
Latimer edged both Evans and Josh Cumming on the third hole.
Emory posted a fourth-place finish out of 14 teams at the
Invitational.
In 19 rounds of action during the fall and spring seasons, Evans is
averaging 74.5 strokes.
(Mar. 26) -- Sophomore Jeremy Evans paced the
Emory effort this past weekend at the Jekyll Island
Invitational.
Evans tied for 24th place out of 132 competitors with an eight-over
54-hole score of 224 (80-74-70). After his opening round 80, Evans
was even par over the final 36 holes, and his two-under effort of
70 on the final day of action tied for the low round of the
day.
Emory finished tied for eighth place out of 24 teams at the
Invitational.
(Mar. 12) -- Senior Rod Olivero (Guatemala
City, Guatemala) was the Eagles' top finisher at the Callaway
Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 5-6), tying for sixth place in the
87-player field.
Olivero registered a 36-hole score of five-over par 149. Rod
recorded an opening-round mark of 75 on the par-72, 7,057-yard
Mountain View Golf Course before closing out with a 74.
Emory finished tied for seventh out of 16 teams at the tournament.
(Mar. 5) -- Senior Rod Olivero (Guatemala City,
Guatemala) was the Eagles' top finisher at the Mary-Hardin Baylor
Spring Invitational (Feb. 26-27), tying for sixth place in the
87-player field.
Olivero registered a 36-hole score of nine-over par 153. Rod
recorded an opening-round mark of 76 on the par-72, 6,943-yard
Wildflower Country Club course before closing out with a 77.
Emory finished seventh out of 16 teams at the tournament.
(Nov. 10) -- Senior Rod Olivero (Guatemala City, Guatemala) claimed medalist honors at the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational (Oct. 30-31) held at the Royal Lakes Golf Club. Olivero fired a two-under 140 (70-70) en route to first-place honors, two strokes ahead of teammate Jeremy Evans. During the fall portion of the 2006 schedule, Olivero averaged 73.3 strokes per round and his low round of 68 at the Gordin Collegiate Classic tied for the third-lowest round in school history.
(Oct. 23) -- Senior Rod Olivero helped the Eagles to a first-place finish out of 12 teams at the Gordin Collegiate Classic, Oct. 15-16. Olivero claimed medalist honors in the 60-player field by firing a school record two-round score of four-under par 138 (68-70) at the Surfside Dunes Resort Course in Myrtle Beach, SC. Olivero's total bettered the previous mark of 139 held by Lee Palms set in 1989 at the UAA Championships. In addition, Olivero's opening-round 68 tied him for third place on the school's all-time single-round list. Olivero became the first player from Emory ever to win medalist honors and his effort aided in the Eagles first-ever team championship at the Gordin Collegiate Classic
(Oct. 11) -- Senior Rod Olivero (Guatemala City, Guatemala) turned in a solid performance at the Tom O'Briant Memorial (Oct. 9-10), finishing tied for 12th in the 89-player field with a six-over effort of 148 (76-72). His final round score led all Emory players and tied for the sixth-best round of the day among all competitors.
(Oct. 5) -- Sophomore Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) turned in an excellent performance at the Greensboro Invitational (Oct. 2-3), finishing second among the 81 players with a four-under effort of 140 (71-69). He was just one stroke behind Joe Gibson of Washington & Lee who carded rounds of 70-69 finish first at 139. Evans' and Gibson's second-round scores represented the low mark of all competitors on the day.
