EMORY GOLF PLACES TRIO ON ALL-AMERICA SCHOLARS TEAM

(May 18) - Emory University seniors Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) and Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO), along with junior John Ross (N. Barrington, IL), have earned spots on the 2008-09 Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team.  The announcement was made by the Golf Coaches Association of America. It marks the second straight year that Evans and Cohn have landed berths on the All-Scholars Team.

A dual major in history and religion, Evans claims a 3.57 grade-point average and completed the year with a 77.3 strokes per-round average, good for the No. 2 spot on the team.  He either ranked or tied as the squad's top performer in four of 10 competitions including the recently concluded NCAA Championships where he tied for 44th out of 120 players. 

Cohn, a dual major as well in history and economics, competed in all of Emory's competitions during the year and finished with a 77.8 strokes per-round mark. He was the team's top finisher at the Rhodes College Fall Classic. A second-team member of the All-University Athletic Association Team, Cohn posts a 3.46 GPA.

Ross, the owner of a 3.78 GPA, played a total of 13 rounds over five spring events and averaged 78.5 strokes per outing. He was the team's No. 2 scorer and finished 37th out of 150 entries at the Jekyll Island Invitational.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average of under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2.


EMORY GOLF SQUAD FINISHES 16TH AT NCCA CHAMPIONSHIPS


(May 16) - The 16th-ranked Emory University golf team finished in 16th place out of 23 teams at the NCAA Division III Golf Championships.  The final two rounds of the 72-hole tournament were played on the Dye Course at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Capturing first place was Oglethorpe University whose final-round performance of 289 topped the field and left it with a final total of 1164.  The University of LaVerne finished runner-up with an 1168  while Methodist University held down the third spot at 1171.

The Eagles of Head Coach Mike Phillips, who started the last day of action in 19th place, concluded the Championships with a 1229.  Emory shot a 306 on Saturday, its second-best showing of the tourney.

Senior Jeremy Evans, playing in his final collegiate event, paced the Emory effort with a 16-over par 304, tying him for 44th position out of 120 competitors. Freshman Ryan Dagerman finished with a 305 and tied for 51st place. Senior Patrick Cohn came through with the Eagles' best round of the afternoon with a 75 to finish at 315.  Junior John Ross (316) and sophomore Daniel Kmetz (320) rounded out the team's competitiors.

Oglethorpe's Olafur Loftsson and LaVerne's Mitchell Fedorka tied for medalist honors a three-under 285 with Loftsson eventually prevailing in a playoff.

The Championships started out with 36 teams and was pared down to 23 squads and a total of 120 players following the second round.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM 19th AFTER THREE ROUNDS OF NCAA D-III CHAMPIONSHIPS


(May 15) - The 16th-ranked Emory University golf team finds itself in 19th place after three rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships.  The final two rounds of the 72-hole tournament are being played on the Dye Course at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Standing in first place is Methodist University whose third-round performance of 289 topped the field and left it with 54-hole total of 871.  Oglethorpe University fired a solid 290 and stands just four strokes behind the Monarchs heading into the final day of action at 875.  Second round leader, the University of LaVerne, surrendered its top spot after its 302 left its total at 877.  Rounding out the top five are Texas at Tyler (886) and Illinois Wesleyan (889).

The Eagles of Head Coach Mike Phillips stand at 923 after shooting a 318 on Friday.   

Freshman Ryan Dagerman and senior Jeremy Evans stand tied as the top Emory performers at 12-over par 228, good for a 52nd-place tie in the 120-player field.  Evans shot a five-over 77 today while Dagerman posted an 80.   Junior John Ross is the Eagles' No. 3 man at 234, tying for 84th spot.  Rounding out the team's competitors is senior Patrick Cohn (240) and sophomore Daniel Kmetz (242).

Mitchell Fedorka of LaVerne still holds the top spot among individuals following Friday's action with his two-over par 72 giving him a 212, two strokes ahead of teammate Rizal Amin.

The Championships started out with 36 teams and was pared down to 23 squads following the second round. The final round of the Championship will be conducted on Saturday.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM TIED FOR 15th AFTER TWO ROUNDS OF NCAA D-III CHAMPIONSHIPS


(May 14) -
The 16th-ranked Emory University golf team finds itself tied for 15th place after two rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships.  The first two rounds of the 72-hole tournament are being played on the Dye and the Ryder Courses at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Standing in first place is the University of LaVerne whose second-round performance of 283 gives it a 36-hole total of 575.  First-round leader Methodist finished Thursday's action with a 303 and stands second at 582.  Rounding out the top five are Oglethorpe University (585), Ohio Wesleyan (591) and Texas at Tyler (593).

The Eagles of Head Coach Mike Phillips played the 7,123-yard, par-72 Dye Course and recorded a 313 to leave it at 605.  Other schools tied with Emory include Nebraska Wesleyan and Washington & Lee.

Freshman Ryan Dagerman and junior John Ross pace the team's effort with each player standing at four-over par 148.  Dagerman, who shot a 70 on Wednesday, finished with a 78 on Thursday while Ross shot the club's best score of the day with 76.  Dagerman and Ross will enter Friday's action tied for 26th place.   Senior Jeremy Evans is tied for 57th position at 151 (73-78).  Other Emory competitors include sophomore Daniel Kmetz (77-81-158) and senior Patrick Cohn (82-81).

Mitchell Fedorka of LaVerne concluded Thursday as the second-round leader with a six-under 138 (67-71).  Teammate Rizal Amin is in hot pursuit and just three strokes behind at 141.

The Championships started out with 36 teams and was pared down to 23 squads following today's action. The final two rounds of the event will be conducted on the Dye Course.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM TIED FOR 5th AFTER FIRST ROUND OF NCAA D-III CHAMPIONSHIPS

(May 13) - The 16th-ranked Emory University golf team is tied for fifth place after the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships.  The first two rounds of the 72-hole tournament are being played on the Dye and the Ryder Courses at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Standing in first place in the 36-team field is No. 2-ranked Methodist University which finished with a blistering nine-under par 279 while playing the par 72, 6,953-yard Ryder Course.  Defending champ and No. 7-ranked St. John's University (MN) holds down second place at even-par 288 while Skidmore College and Texas at Tyler are deadlocked for third at 291.

The Eagles of Head Coach Mike Phillips played the Ryder Course on Wednesday and are one of three schools to occupy fifth place.  Emory finished the opening day of action with a mark of 292, tying it with the University of LaVerne and LaGrange College. 

Emory has two of its competitors among the top 20 performers in the 185-player field.  Freshman Ryan Dagerman (Dallas, TX) is tied for sixth after turning in two-under 70, tying the school's record for an individual low score in a NCAA Championship.  After going out with one-over par 37 on the front side, Dagerman shot a three-under 33 on the back nine to close out his day.  All totaled, he recorded four birdies and a pair of bogeys.  Junior John Ross (North Barrington, IL) turned in solid effort, finishing his opening round at even-par 72, tying him for 20th position.  Senior Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL), playing in his final collegiate tournament, is tied for 32nd place after checking in with a one-over par 73.   Evans displayed considerable success on the longer holes with three birdies on four of the course's par-5 holes. Rounding out the Eagles contingent was sophomore Daniel Kmetz (Louisville, KY) with a 77 and senior Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO) with an 81.

Tom Cooper of Methodist University and Mitchell Fedorka of LaVerne both fired five-under par 67 to tie for the top spot after the opening 18 holes action.

Following Thursday's round, the field will be pared to 23 teams and the final two days of action will take place on the Dye Course.  Emory will play its second round on the Dye Course.


 15th-RANKED EMORY GOLF TEAM EARNS BID TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

(May 4) - The No. 15-ranked Emory University golf team has been selected to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division III Golf Championships.  The Eagles are one of 36 teams vying for the team title that will be played May 13-16 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Serving as the host institution for this year's Championships will be Methodist University.

Emory was one of seven teams selected from Pool B which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification.  A total of 27 conferences were awarded automatic bids while the final two berths were reserved for Pool C - institutions from automatic qualifying conferences that are not conference champs and any remaining Pool B teams.  In addition, five individuals from non-qualifying teams were chosen to participate bringing the field to 185 players.

The first two days of competition (May 13 & 14) will be played on both the Dye and Ryder Courses.  The field will then be cut to 23 teams and five individuals after the first two rounds.  The final two rounds will be played on the Dye Course.

Emory will be making its seventh straight NCAA appearance and 14th overall in the 24-year history of the program. Last season, the Eagles posted a 15th-place finish. St. John's University (MN) captured the team title after rallying from an eight-stroke deficit entering the final day of action to finish three strokes ahead of the University of Redlands.  The 2008 Championships were held at Chateau Elan in nearby Braselton.

Nine of the nation's top 10-ranked teams will be among those in the hunt for this year's national crown.  Huntingdon holds down the No. 1 spot in the Golf World/NIKE Coaches' Poll while Methodist, Skidmore, Oglethorpe and LaVerne round out the top five.


   CARNEGIE MELLON CAPTURES UAA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP -- EMORY FINISHES SECOND


(Apr. 27) - Carnegie Mellon withstood a second-round charge by Emory and came away with first place at the 2009 UAA Golf Championships. The 36-hole event was held at the 6,870-yard, par-71 Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch.

The Tartans shot a 305 on Tuesday to finish at 626. Emory, which started the day in fourth position, paced the field with a second-round 303 to close out at 629. Rochester (631), NYU (633) and Brandeis (666) rounded out the field.

Claiming medalist honors was CMU's Christopher Lee with a fine three-over 145 (72-73). David Wien of Rochester finished runner-up at 148 (73-75).

Emory junior John Ross rebounded from an opening-day score of 90 to shoot a 73, tying him with Lee for the low round of the afternoon and the second-low effort of the tourney.

Emory had two representatives on the All-UAA first team, freshman Ryan Dagerman, who finished third with a 153 (77-76), and sophomore Daniel Kmetz (81-75--156) who checked in with a fourth-place effort. Senior Patrick Cohn earned second-team recognition with an eighth-place finish of 159 (80-79). Jeremy Evans shot an 80 on Tuesday to finish at 168.

EMORY GOLF TEAM HOSTS UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

(Apr. 22) - The No. 15-ranked Emory University golf team will serve as the host institution for the 2009 University Athletic Association Golf Championships.  This year's 36-hole event will be played on Sunday and Monday (Apr. 26-27) at the 6,870-yard, par-71 Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch, Ga.

Joining Emory in the Championship will be Brandeis University, Carnegie Mellon, New York University and the University of Rochester.  The Eagles of head coach Mike Phillips stand as two-time defending champion and captured last year's title by 24 strokes over runner-up Carnegie Mellon.  Looking to defend his medalist title will be Rochester's Ryan Williams who edged Emory's Jeremy Evans, Patrick Cohn and John Ross by a single shot.

Emory entered two squads at the Emory Spring Invitational, Apr. 14, at Stone Mountain Golf Course and saw its Gold Team post a seventh-place finish out of 14 teams.  The Blue Team held down the No. 8 spot and saw sophomore Daniel Kmetz post the program's top score with a 150 (76-74), tying for 14th place in the 79-player field.  Evans paced the Gold Team's effort with a 12-over 152 (76-76), tying for 20th position.

Competing for Emory at the UAA Championships will be Evans, Patrick Cohn, John Ross, Kmetz and Ryan Dagerman.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM FINISHES SEVENTH AT SPRING INVITATIONAL

(Apr. 15) - The No. 14-ranked Emory men's golf team recorded a seventh-place finish out of 14 teams at the annual Emory Spring Invitational.  This year's event was played at the 6,813-yard, par-70 Stone Mountain Golf Course. 

After seeing Monday's first-round action washed out, the competing teams played 36 holes on Tuesday.  No. 1-ranked Huntingdon College took home first place with a team score of 577, ending Methodist College's three-year run as champion.  Methodist finished runner-up to the Hawks with a mark of 578.  Rounding out the top five squads were Oglethorpe University (595), Greensboro College (600) and Washington & Lee (615).  Emory's Gold Team posted a mark of 618.

Leading the Emory Gold effort was senior Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) who finished at 152 (76-76), good for a 20th-place tie in the 79-player field.  Senior Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO) and junior John Ross (N. Barrington, IL) each checked in at 154, tying for the 27th spot.  Cohn shot back-to-back rounds of 77 while Ross registered 76-78.
Rounding out the Gold Team efforts were freshman Ryan Dagerman (76-82-158, t-39th) and junior Charles Raindre (79-86-t-57th).

The top Emory scorer was sophomore Daniel Kmetz, a Blue Team member, whose 150 (76-74) tied for 14th place.  The Eagles' Blue team came in eighth with a 630.

Claiming medalist honors was Jake Pleczkowski of Methodist with a three-under 137 (69-68).  The only other player to break par was Huntingdon's Chase Rogers who totaled a 139 (66-73).

Emory returns to action when it hosts the University Athletic Association Championship, April 26-27, at the Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM HOSTS SPRING INVITATIONAL

(Apr. 10) - The No. 14-ranked Emory University golf team takes to the links next Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 13-14) when it serves as host to the Emory Spring Invitational.  The 36-hole tourney will be held at the 6,863-yard, par-70 Stonemount Course at the Stone Mountain Golf Club.

This year's field is stockpiled with talent with seven teams competing who are ranked among the nation's top 18 squads.  All totaled, 12 schools and 14 teams will be taking part in this year's event including No. 1-ranked Huntingdon.  No. 2 Methodist has claimed the last three Spring Invitationals including last year's 13-stroke victory over runner-up Oglethorpe.  Other ranked teams looking to wrestle the team title from Methodist include No. 4 Oglethorpe, No. 13 Rhodes College, No. 15 Greensboro College and No. 18 LaGrange College.

At last year's Invitational, which was played at Stonemount, Emory posted a fourth-place finish out of 15 teams.  The Eagles' Patrick Cohn paced the team's effort with a score of 146, good for fifth place in the 81-player field and just two strokes out of first. 

In their most recent outing, the Eagles came in ninth out of 27 teams at the Jekyll Island Invitational (Mar. 20-22).  Senior Jeremy Evans was the club's top finisher, tying for the 28th spot  in the 150-player field.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM EYES JEKYLL ISLAND INVITATIONAL

(Mar. 19) - The No. 13-ranked Emory University golf team continues its spring schedule this Friday through Sunday (Mar. 20-22) when it competes in the Jekyll Island Invitational.  The 54-hole tourney will be held at the 6,521-yard, par-72 Oleander Course on Jekyll Island.

This year's field will be comprised of approximately 27 teams and over 130 players.  Four of the nation's top 10 and eight of the top 25 teams will be vying for the team title including No. 2-ranked and defending champion Methodist.  No. 1 Huntingdon, No. 4 Oglethorpe, No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan comprise the rest of the top 10 teams in the field.

Emory representatives will include seniors Jeremy Evans, Patrick Cohn and Sean Madgett, along with juniors John Ross and Charles Raindre. Freshman Mike Mullavey will compete as an individual.

Last year, Emory finished tied for sixth out of 26 teams and was led by Cohn who tied for the 18th position in the 130-player field.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM EDGES COLGATE

(Mar. 16) - The No. 13-ranked Emory men's golf team returned to action on Sunday and recorded a 4-3 win over Colgate University.  The match, originally scheduled to be played at the Celebrity Golf Club International in nearby Tucker, was moved to the 7,017-yard, par-72 Country Club of Georgia.

Prior to the match, it was determined that seven one-point matches would be held.  Three Emory players came way with victories, juniors John Ross and Charles Raindre along with senior Patrick Cohn. Senior Sean Madgett and junior Will Gallagher halved their matches to account for the Eagles' other point.

Emory returns to action this Friday through Sunday (Mar. 20-22) when it competes in the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.  The 54-hole tournament will be played at the 6,521-yard, par-72 Oleander Course on Jekyll Island.  Last year, the Eagles tied for sixth place out of 26 teams.

 EMORY GOLF TEAM HOSTS DIVISION I COLGATE UNIVERSITY IN DUAL MATCH

(Mar. 14) - The No. 13-ranked Emory University men's golf team returns to action on Sunday, March 15, when it hosts NCAA Division I foe Colgate University.  The match will be held at the Celebrity Golf Club International located in nearby Tucker, Ga.

Sunday's match will be Emory's first since Feb. 23-24 when it finished tied for seventh out of 11 teams at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate.  Seniors Jeremy Evans and Patrick Cohn paced the team's effort in that tournament, finishing tied for 14th and 19th place, respectively. Emory was to play at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate on Mar. 2-3 but inclement weather forced cancellation of the event.

Following the Colgate match, the Eagles of head coach Mike Phillips will compete at the Jekyll Island Invitational, Mar. 20-22.


    EMORY GOLF TEAM TIES FOR SEVENTH AT PINE NEEDLES INTERCOLLEGIATE 

(Feb. 24) - The No. 14-ranked Emory men's golf team finished in a seventh-place tie out of 11 teams at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate. The 36-hole event was played at the 7,015-yard, par-71 Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

Emory fired a second-round team score of 309 to finish with a final mark of 618, tying it with Averett College (311-307).  Belmont Abbey defended its crown firing an impressive second-day score of 286 to conclude the tournament with a 587.  Greensboro College finished in second place at 595 (298-297) while Bridgewater was third with a showing of 606 (301-305).  Union (TN) and host Guilford rounded out the top five with efforts of 607 and 613, respectively.

Senior Jeremy Evans paced the Emory contingent with a 151 (75-76), good for 12th place in the 58-player field.  Senior Patrick Cohn recorded a 152 (75-77) and junior John Ross finished at 158 (79-79).  Other Emory competitors included senior Sean Madgett (80-78-158) and freshman Ryan Dagerman (81-78-159).

Taking home medalist honors was Connor Tomlinson of Belmont-Abbey with a two-over par 144 (76-68). Teammate Peter Tarver Jones came in second at 145 (73-72).  

Emory returns to action, Mar. 2-3, when it competes at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate in Pine Mountain, Georgia.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM OPENS SPRING SCHEDULE AT PINE NEEDLES INTERCOLLEGIATE

(Feb. 20) - The No. 14-ranked Emory University men's golf team opens the spring portion of its schedule on Monday and Tuesday of next week (Feb. 23-24) when it competes at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate.  The 36-hole event will be played at the 7,015-yard, par-71 Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, in Southern Pines, North Carolina.  The Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club served as the venue for the 1996, 2001 and 2007 U.S. Women's Open.

Host Guilford College, ranked No. 7 among Division III squads, No. 19 Greensboro and Emory headline the 11-team field.  Other teams competing include Averett, defending champ Belmont Abbey, Bridgewater College, Hampden-Sydney, Union, Wesley, Wingate and Cape Fear CC.

Last season the Eagles posted a fourth-place finish out of 11 squads with Patrick Cohn turning in the Eagles' top performance, tying for ninth place in the 56-player field with a six-over par score of 148.

Competing for Emory in the year's event will be a trio of seniors -- Jeremy Evans, Patrick Cohn and Sean Madgett - along with junior John Ross and freshman Ryan Dagerman.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM CLOSES OUT FALL SEASON AT O'BRIANT MEMORIAL

(Oct. 26) - The No. 12-ranked Emory University golf team will close out the fall portion of its schedule on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 27-28) when it competes at the Tom and Bettie O'Briant Memorial.  The 36-hole event will be played on par-70, 6,640-yard Cardinal Golf and Country Club in Greensboro, NC.

In their most recent outing, the Eagles of Head Coach Mike Phillips recorded a fifth-place finish out of 11 teams at the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational.

Senior Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) concluded the Invitational with a squad-best score of 145 (76-69), good for a ninth-place tie in the 65-player field.  Sophomore Daniel Kmetz (Louisville, KY) tied for the 18th spot after turning in a 148 (76-72) while senior Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO) bounced back from an opening-day 78 to record a 72, good for a total of 150.

At last year's O'Briant Memorial, Emory finished second out of 17 squads with Evans coming in second out of 86 players with a two-under effort of 140 (70-70). 


 EMORY GOLF TEAM FINISHES FIFTH AT OGLETHORPE FALL INVITATIONAL

(Oct. 21) - The No. 12-ranked Emory University golf team finished in fifth place out of 12 teams at the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational.  The 36-hole event was played at the 6,835-yard, par-71 Royal Lakes Golf Course in nearby Flowery Branch.

The Eagles shot a final-day score of 291, giving them a team a mark of 592.  Taking home first place was host Oglethorpe at 577 while Guilford (578) and Huntingdon (580) posted second and third place performances.  

Senior Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) concluded the Invitational with a squad-best score of 145, with his second round 69 representing the second-low round of the fall season by an Emory player.  Sophomore Daniel Kmetz (Louisville, KY) turned in a 148 (76-72) while senior Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO) bounced back from an opening-day 78 to record a 72, good for a total of 150. Charles-Henri Raindre (73-79-152) and freshman Ryan Dagerman (76-78-154) rounded out the Emory contingent.

Emory returns to action, Oct. 27-28, when it competes at the Guilford College Invitational in Greensboro, NC.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM STANDS SEVENTH AT OGLETHORPE FALL INVITATIONAL

(Oct. 20) - The No. 12-ranked Emory University golf team finds itself in seventh place out of 12 teams at the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational.  The 36-hole event is being played at the 6,835-yard, par-71 Royal Lakes Golf Course in nearby Flowery Branch.

The Eagles recorded an opening-day score of 301.  Holding down the top spot is No. 6-ranked Guilford College at 286 while Oglethorpe is in hot pursuit with a mark of 290.

Leading the Emory effort on Monday was sophomore Charles-Henri Raindre (Paris, France) with a two-over par 73.  Senior Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) sophomore Daniel Kmetz (Louisville, KY) and freshman Ryan Dagerman (Dallas, TX) all checked in at 76.  Senior Patrick Cohn concluded Monday's action with a 78.

The final round will be played on Tuesday with action starting at 8:00 a.m.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM TO PLAY AT OGLETHORPE INVITATIONAL

(Oct. 17) -- The No. 12-ranked Emory University men's golf team continues its fall schedule on Monday and Tuesday  (Oct 21-22) when it competes at the Oglethorpe Invitational.  The 36-hole event will be played at the 6,835-yard, par-71 Royal Lakes Golf Course in nearby Flowery Branch.

This year's 12-team field includes a number of elite Division III squads including seven of the top 20-ranked teams - No. 1 Methodist, No. 4 Oglethorpe, No. 6 with Guilford, No. 11 Rhodes and No. 12 Emory.  No. 16 LaGrange and No. 19 Greensboro.  Guilford captured the top spot last year, recording a two-stroke victory over Oglethorpe.  Emory finished the tourney in ninth place.

In their most recent performance, the Eagles finished fifth out of 12 teams at the Gordin Collegiate Classic (Oct. 12-13) held in Fredericksburg, Va. Sophomore Charles-Henri Raindre (Paris, France) led the Emory contingent with a school-record score of five-under 137 (71-66), good for a first-place tie out of 60 players.  Raindre took part in a playoff with Josh Schrader of Methodist for medalist honors with Schrader topping Raindre on the fourth extra hole.  Senior Jeremy Evans was the No. 2 Eagle and tied for 24th place with a 149 (76-73).  


 EMORY GOLF TEAM RALLIES TO FINISH  FIFTH AT GORDIN COLLEGIATE CLASSIC


(Oct. 13) -  The No. 9-ranked Emory University golf team used a solid second round on Monday to record a fifth-place finish out of 12 teams at the  Gordin Collegiate Classic.
The 36-hole tournament was played on the 7,010-yard, par-71 Beman Course at the Cannon Ridge Golf Club in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Residing in ninth place after the opening 18 holes of action, the Eagles of head coach Mike Phillips bounced back with a final-round mark of 291, tying the second low score of the day, to finish at 590.  No. 5-ranked Huntingdon College rallied from a seven stroke deficit to claim the top spot with a 569 (282-287).  No. 2 Methodist, the first-day leader, claimed the runner-up spot with a 571 (277-294) while Skidmore College (291-291-582) and Illinois Wesleyan (285-300--585) took home third and fourth place, respectively.

Sophomore Charles-Henri Raindre (Paris, France) highlighted the Emory effort, firing a second-round, five-under par 66 to finish in a first-place tie with Josh Schrader of Methodist at 137.  Schrader eventually claimed medalist honors after coming through with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole.

Senior Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) closed out the Classic with a two-over par 73 to finish at 149, good for a 24th-place tie in the 60-player field.  Freshman Ryan Dagerman (Dallas, TX) tied for 28th after posting a 150 (73-77) while seniors Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO) and  Sean Madgett (Sammamish, WA) rounded out the team's performers with marks of 154 and 164, respectively.    Emory continues the fall portion of its schedule, Oct. 20-21, when it competes in the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational at the Royal Lakes Golf Club in Flowery Brach, GA.
  


 EMORY GOLF TEAM STANDS 9TH STANDS AFTER FIRST ROUND OF GORDIN COLLEGIATE

(Oct. 12) -  The No. 9-ranked Emory University golf team finds itself in ninth place out of 12 teams after the first round of the Gordin Collegiate Classic.  This year's 36-hole tournament is being played on the 7,010-yard, par-71 Beman Course at the Cannon Ridge Golf Club in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Holding down the top spot after the opening day of action is No. 2 Methodist with a seven-under 277.  The Monarchs were paced by junior Josh Schrader who fired a course record 64.  No. 5 Huntingdon College is second with a mark of 282 while Illinois Wesleyan stands third at 285.  Skidmore (291) and Ohio Wesleyan (294) round out the top five squads.

A pair of first-year players led Emory on Sunday with sophomore Charles-Henri Raindre (Paris, France) posting an even-par 71 and freshman Ryan Dagerman (Dallas, TX) checking in with a 76.  Other Emory performers included seniors Jeremy Evans (76), Patrick Cohn (79) and Sean Madgett (81).

The final round of the Gordin Collegiate Classic will be held on Monday.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM EYES GORDIN COLLEGIATE CLASSIC

(Oct. 9) - The No. 9-ranked Emory University men's golf team competes in its third event of the fall season on Sunday and Monday (Oct. 12-13) when the Eagles take part in the prestigious Gordin Collegiate Classic.  This year's 36-hole tournament will be played on the 7,010-yard, par-71 Beman Course at the Cannon Ridge golf Club in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

This year's 12-team field includes eight of the top 10-ranked Division III squads in the nation.  Among the schools participating are No. 1 St. Johns (MN), the defending NCAA champs, No. 2 Methodist, No. 4 Oglethorpe, No. 5 Huntingdon, No. 6 Skidmore, No. 8 and host school Ohio Wesleyan, and No. 10 Illinois Wesleyan.

Emory took home first-place honors at the 2006 Gordin Collegiate at the Grand Dunes Members Club (Myrtle Beach, SC) with former Eagle Rod Olivero laying claim to medalist honors.  Oglethorpe University heads into this year's action looking to defend its title from 2007.

In their most outing, the Eagles of head coach Mike Phillips turned in an 11th-place finish out of 15 teams at the Macdonald Cup in New Haven, Conn.  Freshman Ryan Dagerman (Dallas, TX) was the team's top performer with an 11-over par 54-hole score of 221 (75-71-75), tying him for 16th place among 79 finishers.


EMORY GOLF TEAM FINISHES 11TH AT MACDONALD CUP         


(Oct. 5) -  The No. 9-ranked Emory University golf team recorded an 11th place finish out of 15 teams at the Macdonald Cup.  The 54-hole tourney was played at the 6,750-yard, par-70 Yale University Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.

Emory came through with a final-day score of 308 to finish at 920 (307-305-308).  Taking home first place was Oklahoma with an effort 860 (283-288-289).  Yale finished runner-up at 868 (293-282-293) while Bryant was third with a mark of 871 (292-284-295).

Freshman Ryan Dagerman (Dallas, TX) was Emory's top scorer with an 11-over par  221 (75-71-75), tying for 16th place in the 80-player field.  Seniors Patrick Cohn (80-80-72--232) and Jeremy Evans (77-75-81-233) finished tied for 51st and 54th, respectively.  Jason Thresher of Bryant took home medalist honors with a two-under score of 208 (71-68-69).


 EMORY GOLF TEAM 12TH AFTER 36 HOLES AT MACDONALD CUP       

(Oct. 4) -  The No. 9-ranked Emory University golf team finds itself in 12th place out of 15 teams after the first day of play at the Macdonald Cup.  The 54-hole tourney is being played at the 6,750-yard, par-70 Yale University Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.

Emory fired a 36-hole team score of 612 (307-305) on the opening day of action.  Freshman Ryan Dagerman (Dalls, TX) led the Eagles' contingent with a six-over 146 (75-71), good for 18th position in the 80-player field.  Senior Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) stands tied for 47th after posting a 152 (77-75).

Oklahoma stands in first place with a mark of 571 (283-288), just one stroke ahead of Sacred Heart's 572 (280-292).  Host Yale holds down the No. 3 spot on the team leader board (575) while Bryant University is fourth (576).  Erik Downs of Flager leads all individual players with a four-under 136 (67-69).

The Macdonald Cup concludes on Sunday with an 18-hole round.


EMORY GOLF TEAM TO COMPETE IN MACDONALD CUP

(Oct. 2) - The No. 9-ranked Emory University men's golf team returns to action this Saturday and Sunday (4-5) when it takes part in the Macdonald Cup.  The 54-hole tournament will be played at the 6,749-yard, par-70 Yale University Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.  Teams competing will play 36 holes on Saturday and conclude action with 18 holes on Sunday.

Emory is part of a 14-team field that includes the University of Oklahoma, Flagler, Fordham,
Quinnipiac, Dartmouth, Harvard, Sacred Heart, Uconn, Central Connecticut, Holy Cross,
Bryant. Binghamton and host Yale.

The Macdonald Cup will represent Emory's second tournament of the fall season.  In their initial action, the Eagles finished seventh out of 21 teams at the Rhodes College Fall Classic, Sept. 21-22, in Tunica, Miss.  Senior Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO) paced the team's effort and tied for 25th place overall out of 107 competitors with a six-over par 150.  Freshman Alex Andruskevich (New York, NY) was second among the Emory contingent and finished in a deadlock for 28th position with a 152.

Following the Macdonald Cup, the Eagles will play at the Gordin Collegiate Classic, Oct. 12-13, in Fredericksburg, VA.


 EMORY GOLF TEAM CLOSES OUT RHODES INVITATIONAL WITH SEVENTH-PLACE FINISH


(Sept. 22) - The No. 11-ranked Emory University golf team finished seventh out of 21 teams at the Rhodes College Fall Invitational.  The 36-hole tourney was held at the 7,024-yards, par-72 Tunica (MS) National Golf Resort.

Emory posted a final-round team score of 300 to finish the event at 603.  Oglethorpe University captured first place with a 579 while Huntingdon College claimed the runner-up spot with a 582.  Rounding out the top five were Texas Lutheran (588), the Oglethorpe ‘B' Team (590) and UT-Tyler (592).

Senior Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO) led the Emory contingent, concluding the second round with an even-over par 72 to finish at 150. Freshman Alex Andruskevich (New York, NY) enjoyed a fine tourney in his debut, shooting a final-day score of 76 to check in with a total of 152.  Junior Shane Miller (Irwin, PA) and sophomore Daniel Kmetz (Louisville, KY) each shot a 153.  Rounding out the Eagles' effort was senior Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) with a 156.

Emory continues the fall portion of its schedule, Oct. 4-5, when it competes at the Macdonald Cup in New Haven, CT.  


 EMORY GOLF TEAM OPENS FALL SEASON AT RHODES COLLEGE INVITATIONAL  

(Sept. 17) - The No. 11-ranked Emory University golf team opens the fall portion of its schedule this coming Sunday and Monday (Sept. 21-22) when it competes at the Rhodes College Invitational.  The Invitational will be played at the 7,024-yards, par-72 Tunica (MS) National Golf Resort. 

This year's field includes seven squads that are ranked among the top 20 NCAA Division III teams in the nation including Oglethorpe (No.4), Huntingdon (No.5), UT-Tyler (No. 13), Rhodes (No. 15), Transylvania (No. 19) and Texas Lutheran (No. 20).  Other teams competing include Centre College, McMurry, DePauw, Maryville, Sewanee, Southwestern and Millsaps.

Head Coach Mike Philips enters his 26th season in charge of the Eagles' program, and returns a number of key personnel from last year's unit that posted a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships.  The Eagles lost just one senior, Drew Harker, from last year but return the senior tandem of Jeremy Evans (Palm Harbor, FL) and Patrick Cohn (St. Louis, MO).  Evans paced last year's team in scoring average (75.2) while Cohn was right behind at 75.7 per round.  They are joined by returnees Sean Madgett (Sr., Sammamish, WA), Daniel Kmetz (So., Louisville, KY), Shane Miller (Jr., Irwin, PA) and Will Gallagher (Sr., Wagontown, PA) who all look for strong fall seasons. Juniors John Ross and Raffi Simel are both studying abroad in the fall and will return to compete in the spring.

After winning the team championship in 2006, the Eagles came in sixth out of 13 teams last year.
