The No. 14-ranked Emory University golf team turned in another
solid effort on Thursday during the third round of the NCAA
Division Championships and moved up a couple of spots to
15th place out of 23 teams. Today’s action
was held at the 6,837-yard, par-72 Links Course at the Hershey
Country Club in Hershey, Penn.
The Eagles came through with another sub-300 round, with its team
score of 297 giving the squad a 54-hole showing of 919. No.
1-ranked Methodist is atop the standings with a 24-over par 884,
five shots ahead of No. 2-ranked Huntingdon College’s
889. Guilford College stands third (895) while Oglethorpe
(897) and St. John’s of Minnesota (900) round out the top
five.
Emory’s 1-2 punch of sophomore Ryan Dagerman and senior Shane
Miller continued their strong play on Thursday with Dagerman coming
through with an even par 72 while Miller shot a one-under 71.
Heading into the final day of action, Dagerman is tied for
13th place in the 120-player field with a 222.
Miller is just one shot behind at 223, tying him for
19th place. Miller recorded steady round with
three birdies and two bogeys en route to posting his second-best 18
holes of the season. Freshman Thomas Mally battled his way to a 76
and is tied for 88th position at 236. Others competing
for Emory include Tae Cho and David Collura, both of whom show a
score of 241.
Tain Lee of Claremont Mudd Scripps left course in the No. 1 spot
for the third straight day with his Thursday’s work of 72
leaving him at 210, five shots ahead of Josh Schrader of Methodist
whose 68 enabled him to get back in the hunt for medalist
honors. As a whole, scores plummeted in the third round as
temperatures climbed into the low 60s with no rain and light wind
at the Hershey Links. A total of 24 players shot par or better in
round three, and the 120 players averaged 75.58 strokes in the
round.
Action in Friday's final round will begin 15 minutes earlier
than scheduled, at 7:15 a.m., due to the forecast of possible
thunderstorms in the area Friday afternoon.
