14th-Ranked Emory Golf Team Earns NCAA Bid

NCAA Selection Release

The No. 14-ranked Emory University golf team has been selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division III Golf Championships.  The Eagles are one of 37 squads vying for the team title that will be played May 11-14 at the Hershey Links and Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Penn.

Serving as the host institution for this year's Championships will be Elizabethtown College.

Emory was one of seven teams selected from Pool B which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification.  A total of 27 conferences were awarded automatic bids while the final three berths were reserved for Pool C - institutions from automatic qualifying conferences that are not conference champs and any remaining Pool B teams.  In addition, five individuals from non-qualifying teams were chosen to participate bringing the field to 190 players.

The first two days of competition (May 11 & 12) will be played on both the Hershey Links and the Hershey Country Club East Course.  The field will then be cut to 23 teams and five individuals after the first two rounds.  The final two rounds will be played on the Hershey Links Course.

Emory will be making its eighth straight NCAA appearance and 15th overall in the 25-year history of the program. Last season, the Eagles posted a 16th-place finish at nationals which were held at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Oglethorpe University captured the team title finishing four shots ahead of the University of LaVerne.

Eight of the nation's top 10-ranked teams will be among those in the hunt for this year's national crown.  Methodist holds down the No. 1 spot in the Golf World/NIKE Coaches' Poll while Huntingdon, Skidmore, Guilford and Greensboro round out the top five.
