The 20th-ranked Emory University golf team closed out
its participation at the 2011 Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at
Camp Lejuene’s (NC) Paradise Point Golf Club by tying for
fifth place out of 16 teams in the Scarlet Division.
The Eagles of head coach Mike Phillips recorded a 54-hole score of
874 (282-299-293), deadlocking them with Clarion. Capturing the top
spot in the division was Hampden-Sydney with a score of 863.
Southeastern Florida posted a runner-up finish (864) while
Christopher Newport held down third place with an effort of
868.
Pacing the team’s effort was junior Ryan Dagerman who carded
rounds of 69, 74, and 72 on the par-70 Scarlet Course and the
par-72 Gold Course to finish at four-over par 216, good for an
11th-place tie in the 80-player field. Senior
Charles Raindre was the next Emory player on the leader board with
his 217 (72-71-74) leaving him in 17th position.
Freshman Jonathan Chen tied for 20th place at 220
(75-70-75) while senior Nick Szem rounded out the squad’s
scorers with a mark of 225, ranking him 39th. Also
competing for Emory was junior Michael Mullavey who posted a
227.
Taking home medalist honors in the Scarlet Division was Mike Dowd
of Hampden-Sydney with a 210.
The Eagles return to action, April 11-12, when they host the Emory
Spring Invitational at the Stone Mountain Golf Course.
