Emory University freshman Johnathan
Chen (Sugar Land, TX) has been selected by the University
Athletic Association as the Golfer of the Week following his
performance at the Emory Spring Invitational (Apr. 11-12) in Stone
Mountain, Ga. It marks the first time in his career that he has
been tabbed for the honor.
Chen helped the No. 11-ranked Eagles to a first-place finish at the
Invitational, claiming medalist honors as he topped the 89-player
field with a two-over par 142 (73-69). His second-round score
was the lowest effort turned in by any player over the 36-hole
tourney and tied his best outing of the year. In addition,
his final total was the best 36-hole outing by an Emory this year
and tied for 10th on the school’s all-time
ladder.
Emory captured the top spot in the 17-team field with a score of
594, three strokes ahead of runner-up Oglethorpe University.
Chen has played 19 of a possible 21 round this year and stands
second on the team behind Ryan Dagerman in scoring average
(74.2).
