The No. 10-ranked Emory University golf team stayed within striking distance of the leaders during the third round of the NCAA Division III Championships and will enter the final day of action on Friday in sixth place.  The final two rounds of the 72-hole event are being played on the 7,045-yard, par 72 East Course at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC.

In a day that saw teams jockey for position while trying to generate some momentum for Friday, the Eagles turned in a team score of 299, leaving them at 885 through 54 holes..  Emory is just eight shots from leader Greensboro College (887) and five shots away from second-place Methodist University (880).  Texas Lutheran (882) holds down third place while Illinois Wesleyan and St. John’s (MN) are deadlocked for fourth place at 883.  St. John’s entered the third round in first place by three strokes but ballooned to a team score of 306, dropping it down the leader board.

Emory senior Charles Raindre paced the team’s effort with a one-under par 71, which tied for the low round of the day among the 81 players that competed.  As has been most of the case throughout the Championships, Raindre was quite steady, registering three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars on Thursday.  Raindre, who started the day tied for 19th place, posts 54-hole score of even-par 216 (70-75-71), good for sole possession of sixth place.  Junior Ryan Dagerman used a strong effort on the front nine to finish with a one-over par 73, giving him a three-day total of 218, tying for 11th place.  Freshman Johnathan Chen resides in the No. 16 spot at 221 after battling his way to a 75 today.  Sophomore David Collura rounded out the team’s third-round scorers with an 80, and has a score of 230 after three days of play.  Senior Nick Szem shot an 81 today and stands at 234.

Chris Morris of Centre College came through with his third consecutive sub-par round with a 71 on Thursday and paces the individual field with a 13-under par 203.  Tain Lee of Claremont-Mudd Scripps is five shots off the pace at 208 while Jeremy Sanders of Redlands is third with a 209.

The final round of the Championships will be held on Friday with action beginning at 7:30 a.m.
