No. 10-Ranked Emory Golf NCAA Championships Bound

The No. 10-ranked Emory University golf team has been selected to compete in the 2011 NCAA Division III Golf Championships.  The Eagles are one of 40 squads vying for the team title that will be played May 10-13 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC.

Serving as co-hosts institution for this year's Championships will be Guilford College and the Greensboro Commission

Emory was one of six teams selected from Pool B which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification.  A total of 28 conferences were awarded automatic bids while six berths were reserved for Pool C - institutions from automatic qualifying conferences that are not conference champs and any remaining Pool B teams.  In addition, five individuals from non-qualifying teams were chosen to participate bringing the field to 205 players.

The first two days of competition (May 10 & 11) will be played on both the East and West Courses at the Grandover Resort.  The field will then be cut to 15 teams and five individuals after the first two rounds.  The final two rounds will be played on the East Course.

Emory will be making its ninth straight NCAA appearance and 16th overall in the 26-year history of the program. Last season, the Eagles posted a 15th-place finish at nationals which were held at the Hershey Links and Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.  Methodist University captured the team title finishing just one shot ahead of Guilford.

The top 11 ranked teams will be among those in the hunt for this year's national crown.  Guilford  holds down the No. 1 spot in the Golf World/NIKE Coaches' Poll while Saint John’s (MN), Methodist, Greensboro and Illinois Wesleyan round out the top five.
