Emory Golf Team Opens Spring Season At Wynlakes Wynternationals

The No. 18-ranked Emory University golf team opens the spring portion of its schedule on Monday and Tuesday (Mar. 5-6) when it competes at the Wynlakes Wynter Nationals. The 36-hole event will be played at the 6,900-yard, par 72 Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama.  Serving as the host institution is Huntingdon College.

This year's field shapes up as a competitive one with four of the nation's top 10-ranked Division III teams hitting the course.  Some of the top-ranked squads taking part include No. 3 Methodist, No. 7 Oglethorpe, No. 8 Christopher Newport and No. 10 Huntingdon.  All totaled, eight teams will be represented.

During the fall portion of the schedule, senior Ryan Dagerman logged 10 rounds of action over four competitions and paced the team with a 73.6 strokes per-round average.   Dagerman turned in three top-10 performances, including a runner-up effort out of 99 players at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational shooting even-par 142 (73-69).

Sophomore Johnathan Chen, who averaged 75.1 strokes over 10 rounds of play, posted the best fall round, a 68 that took place during the opening day of action at the Al Jones Memorial en route to a fourth-place finish out of 75 entries with a 36-hole score of 145.

Comprising Emory's five-man team at the Wynlakes Wynter Nationals will be Dagerman, Chen, senior Nick Szem, and juniors David Collura and Thomas Mally.   Freshman Alex Wunderlich will compete as an individual.

Emory competed in the 2011 Wynlakes Wynternationals and came in third out of ten teams.
