The No. 18-ranked Emory University golf team used a strong showing in Sunday's in final round at the Jekyll Island Invitational, posting a third-place finish out of 30 teams. The 54-hole tournament was played at the par-72, 6,700 yard Pine Lakes Course.
The Eagles recorded a season-best showing of 288 on the final day of action to finish at 872 (292-292-288). No. 3-ranked Methodist claimed the team title with an 858 (279-287-292) while No. 7 Oglethorpe finished runner-up with an 870 (281-298-291) after shooting a 298. Coastal Georgia held down fourth place (873) while Transylvania rounded out the top five with a mark of 876.
Senior Ryan Dagerman headed up the Emory effort, shooting an even-par 72 on Sunday to turn in a three-day score of one-under 215, tying the school's third-lowest mark for a 54-hole tournament. Dagerman captured all-tournament honors after finishing eighth in the 150-player field. Junior David Collura was next on the Emory leader board with his three-over 219 (72-71-76) tying for 15th place. Sophomore Johnathan Chen, who started the day in 64th position, carded a four-under par 68, tying the best round of the day by the entire field, to finish at 220, good for 25th-place tie. Freshman Alex Wunderlich finished 31st with a five-over par 221 (77-71-73) while senior Nick Szem posted a 229.
Mike Wesko of Methodist took home medalist honors with a seven-under par 209 (70-71-68).
