Eagles Golf Team Stands Second At Emory Spring Invitational

First Round Results

The No. 19-ranked Emory University golf team finds itself in second place out of 17 teams after the opening day of action at the Emory Spring Invitational.  The 36-hole event is being played at the 6,860-yard, par-72 Druid Hills Golf Club.

Emory totaled a team score of 295 on Monday, just three strokes behind No. 6-ranked Oglethorpe who finished the day with a 292.  LaGrange College and No. 8 Transylvania are deadlocked for third place at 296 while Gustavus Adolphus and Centre College are tied for fifth with marks of 297.

Emory senior Ryan Dagerman led the Eagles' effort over the opening 18 holes with a one-under par 71, good for a third-place tie in the 95-player field.   Through 13 holes, Dagerman was two-over par but finished with a flourish, going three under over the final five holes, highlighted by an eagle 3 on the 512-yard, par-5 14th hole.  Sophomore Johnathan Chen and freshman Alex Wunderlich each carded 73s, good for an 11th-place tie on the leader board, while junior David Collura rounded out the team's scoring with a 78.  Senior Nick Szem registered an 84.  The Eagles had four players competing as individuals including junior Thomas Mally (74, t-20th), senior Michael Mullavey (78, t-53), and freshmen Will Roth (80) and Aaron Weiner (89).

Pacing the field after 18 holes is Hudson Keener of LaGrange College, who fired a solid four-under par 68.   Keener posted six birdies on the day, four on the front nine, and finished with a pair of bogeys.  Justin Tereshko of Transylvania is in second after coming up with a two-under par 70.  All totaled, five players in the field broke par. In addition, there were a total of nine eagles turned in by the field on Monday.

The final round of the Emory Spring Invitational begins at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
