Emory Golf Tied For Sixth After First Round Of Oglethorpe Fall Invitational

First-Round Results


The No. 13-ranked Emory golf team stands tied for sixth place out of 15 teams after the opening round of the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational.  The 36-hole event is being played at the 6,848-yard, par-71 Royal Lakes Golf Club in nearby Flowery Branch.

The Eagles are deadlocked with Central College (IA) with both teams registering a Monday score of 303.  No. 2-ranked Methodist University leads the field with a mark of 292, just one shot ahead of top-ranked Oglethorpe.  No. 20 Cal Lutheran carded a 298, good for third place, with No. 11 Greensboro College (299) and Averett University (302) rounding out the top five.

Junior Johnathan Chen (Sugar Land, TX) fired the Eagles' best score of the day, an even- par 71 that ties him for third place in the 87-player field.  Junior Will Roth (Niwot, CO) was the next Emory player on the leader board with his four-over 75 tying for the 21st position.  Sophomore Alex Wunderlich (Ann Arbor, MI) shot a 78 and senior David Collura (Atlanta) closed out the team's scorers with a 79.  Also participating in the contingent and seeing his first action of the fall campaign was freshman Andrew Namkoong who recorded an 80.  In addition, The Eagles had two players competing as individuals, freshman Max Godley (83) and junior Alec Berens (84).

The tournament's final round takes place on Tuesday.
