The No. 13-ranked Emory golf team wound up the fall portion of its 2012-13 schedule with a 13th-place finish at the Golfweek D-III Fall Preview. The 54-hole tourney was held at the 6,793-yard, par-71 Raven Golf Course in Sandestin, Florida.
Emory concluded the three-day event by posting a team score of 907 (304-303-300). No. 18-ranked St. John's (MN) took home first place out of 18 teams with an 876 (292-289-295), just one shot better than runner-up LaGrange (290-293-294). No. 1-ranked Oglethorpe checked in at the No. 3 spot with an 879 (293-301-285) while No. 2-ranked Methodist (883) and No. 6 UT-Tyler (885) rounded out the top five.
Emory junior Johnathan Chen (Sugar Land, TX) broke par on Tuesday, carding a one-under par that put him at 217 for the tourney, good for a ninth-place in the 90-player field. Junior Will Roth (Niwot, CO) totaled an effort of 230 (79-70-81), tying for 54th on the overall scoreboard. Sophomore Alex Wunderlich (Ann Arbor, MI) finished with a 231 (76-82-73) while senior David Collura (Atlanta) accounted for the team's final scorer with a 232 (76-77-79). Junior Alec Berens (Tucson, AZ) also competed for the Eagles and finished at 248.
Cory Howard of LaGrange College captured medalist honors with a brilliant eight-under score of 205 (69-68-68).
Emory returns to the links, Feb. 18-19, when it competes at the Wynlakes Wynternationals in Montgomery, Alabama.
