Emory Golf Stands Second After UAA Championships First Round

The No. 13-ranked Emory men's golf team stands in second place after the first round of the University Athletic Association Championships.  The 36-hole event is being played at the 7,154-yard, par-72 Redtail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida.

Looking to defend its conference crown, Emory posted a first-day score of 312, two strokes behind Carnegie Mellon.  The University of Rochester is one stroke behind the Eagles while New York University rounds out the field at 324.

Junior Alec Berens turned in Emory's best score of the day with a 77, good for a fourth-place tie in the 28-player field.  Junior Jonathan Chen and senior David Collura each carded a 78 while Alex Wunderlich and Will Roth posted 79.  Freshman Jonathan Gerrard, competing as an individual, finished with an 84.

Ian Bangor of Carnegie Mellon was the top individual player after the opening round of play, firing a one-under 71.
