Emory Golfs Ties For Second At UAA Championships

The No. 13-ranked Emory men's golf team closed out its participation at the University Athletic Association Championships by tying for second place.  The 36-hole event was played at the 7,154-yard, par-72 Redtail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida.

The Eagles shaved eight strokes off their opening round and compiled a final day score of 304, giving them a team total of 616.  Emory ended the tourney deadlocked with Carnegie Mellon (310-306).  Taking home the top spot was the University of Rochester who turned in a strong Monday round in finishing with a mark of 609 (313-296).  Rounding out the field was New York University at 632 (324-308).

Junior Alec Berens posted a second-round effort of one-over par 73, leaving him with a two-day score of 150, good for fifth place in the 28-player field.  Junior Jonathan Chen was the next Eagle on the leader board with his 154 (78-76) tying for seventh place.  Senior David Collura (78-78) and Will Roth (79-77) both finished at 156 while sophomore Alex Wunderlich totaled a 161 (79-82).  Freshman Jonathan Gerrard, competing as an individual, shot the best Monday round of any Eagle with his even par 72 closing him out at 156.

Nicholas Palladino of Rochester defeated teammate Dominick Schumacher and Carnegie Mellon's Ian Bangor in a three-hole playoff to claim medalist honors.  All three finished with 36-hole scores of 146.

Emory returns to action, Mar. 15-17, when it plays at the 54-hole Oglethorpe Spring Invitational at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.
