No. 7 Emory Golf Team To Host Spring Invitational

No. 7 Emory Golf Team To Host Spring Invitational

The Emory University golf team returns to action on Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 1-2) when it hosts its Spring Invitational.  The 36-hole tournament will be held at the 6,860-yard, par-72 Druid Hills Golf Club.

14 schools will be vying for the title including five of the top 12 teams in the D-III ranks.   No. 1-ranked Oglethorpe and No. 2 Methodist are among the prominent squads in the hunt as are No. 7 Emory, No. 11 Guilford and No. 12 Transylvania.  Other nationally ranked teams taking part include LaGrange College (#19), Centre (#20) and Christopher Newport (#24).

Methodist took home first place in last year's Invitational, topping runner-up Oglethorpe by seven strokes.  Emory posted a sixth-place showing out of 17 teams.

Emory will have two teams competing at the Invitational -- the Gold comprised of Alec Berens, Will Roth, David Collura, Alex Wunderlich and Chen, and a Blue side made up of Jack Williams, Max Goodley, Vince Sirianni, Andrew Namkoong and Jonathan Gerrard.  Sophomore Aaron Weiner will compete as an individual.

In its most recent action, Emory came through with a fourth-place finish out of 30 teams at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.   Junior Jonathan Chen led the Eagles' effort with a 54-hole score of eight-over par 224 that placed him 12th in the 150-player field.
