The No. 7-ranked Emory men's golf team finished ninth out of 15 teams at its Spring Invitational. The 36-hole event was played at the 6,860-yard, par 72 Druid Hills Golf Club.
The Eagles posted a Tuesday score of 305 and closed out the tourney with a mark of 609. No. 2-ranked Oglethorpe used a strong second-day effort of 284 to pass first-round leader Methodist to claim the team trophy with a showing of 571 (287-284). Methodist took home runner-up honors with a 578 (285-293). Huntingdon College posted a third-place finish at 589 (299-290) while Berry (298-297—595) and No. 11 Guilford (303-294—597) rounded out the top five.
Sophomore Alex Wunderlich topped the Emory effort with a four-over par 148 (71-77), good for a 16th-place tie in the 77-player field. Junior Jonathan Chen tied for 32nd with an eight-over par 152 (77-75). Senior David Collura (79-75—154) and junior Alex Berens (77-78—155) rounded out the Eagles' scorers.
Sophomore Anthony Maccaglia of Oglethorpe captured medalist honors, firing a five-under 67 on Tuesday, the best round of the tournament, to finish at six-under 138, one stroke ahead of Brian Jaeger of Christopher Newport. Noah Ratner of Guilford and Mike Wesko of Methodist tied for third place at 141. Rounding out the all-tournament team were Eric Quinn of Oglethorpe (70-73—143) and Jantzen Latham of Transylvania (73-71---144).
Emory's "B" Team posted a 10th place effort with a two-day performance of 611 (308-303). Freshman Jonathan Gerrard was that squad's leader with a six-over par 150 (76-74) that tied for 19th place in the field.
Emory returns to action, April 20-21, when it competes in the Navy Spring Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland.
