The Emory men's golf team completed first-round action at the 34th annual Navy Spring Invitational on Saturday. The 36-hole event is being played at the 6,611-yard, par-71 Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Maryland.
The 10th-ranked Eagles, the lone Division III program in the 21-team field, posted an opening-day team score of 313, good for a 15th-place tie with St. Francis. Host Navy and the University of Virginia are tied for the No. 1 spot, both at 294. Virginia Tech and Wake Forest are deadlocked for third at 296 while Pennsylvania rounds out the top five with a 298.
Junior Alec Berens posted Emory's top score of the day with a five-over par 76, good for a 29th-place tie out of 105 players. Sophomore Alex Wunderlich was next up among for the Eagles with a 76 while junior Jonathan Chen and senior David Collura rounded out the team's scorers with each carding an 80. Will Roth checked in with an 85.
Evan Beck of Wake Forest and Mac McLaughlin of Virginia are tied for the top spot on the leader board with each firing a one-under par 70.
Action concludes on Sunday.
