Emory's Alex Wunderlich and Johnathan Chen Earn GCAA Honors

Emory University's Alex Wunderlich  (Ann Arbor, MI) and Johnathan Chen (Sugar Land, TX) have been recognized for their performance both on the course and in the classroom with the pair receiving recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Wunderlich earned a spot on the Division III Ping All-Southeast Region Team while Chen was announced as a Cleveland Gof/Srixon All-America Scholar.   Heading into this week's NCAA D-III Championships, Wunderlich had played in all 10 of the team's tournaments, averaging a team-best 75.6 strokes over 21 rounds.  He had shot par or better on three occasions and had a pair of top-five finishes to his credit.  During the fall portion of the schedule, he carded two rounds of 69, the first coming on the opening day at the Rhodes Classic (Sept. 16), followed by the Gordin Classic (Oct. 1).

Chen, a Business major and owner of a 3.21 GPA, had also played in all of the Eagles' 10 competitions prior to the NCAAs, and compiled a 76.0 strokes-per-round average, good for the No. 2 spot on the squad.  His one-under par 70 during the second round of the national championships tied the school's individual low mark at that event and tied his best effort of the 2012-13 campaign.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 and maintain of minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.
