Emory Golf Checks In From Scotland

Emory Golf Checks In From Scotland

Before we left for Scotland Coach Sjoberg told us that Royal Dornoch- the course we were playing was his favorite he had ever played.  This from a man who has been to East Lake, Pinehurst No. 2, and the Atlanta Athletic Club.

Needless to say my expectations were high for this classic links track. After three rounds in the wind rain and sun I believe Dornoch has earned 10 more lifelong fans.  Certainly my favorite part of the trip so far has been our round yesterday when we had a chance to play with the Junior program. Alec Berens and I played with two young Scotsmen and learned more about the culture of the Dornoch golf community than we could have in one hundred rounds without them. Being frequent caddies at the course when they are not playing and practicing, they knew every mound, bunker and ridge and how to use or avoid it. To quote Tom Watson, whose hand written letter to the club was on the wall 5 feet from where I ate dinner last night, "It is a golfing experience I will always remember." To be honest if the trip ended today it would have been a phenomenal time and well worth the miles traveled, and we still have the famed Carnoustie and St. Andrews links ahead of us.

Feeling very lucky and blessed.
