Emory Golf Finishes Play At Tournament Town Championship Preview

The No. 7 Emory University golf team closed out its participation at the Tournament Town Championship Preview on Monday afternoon.   The 36-hole event was held at the 7,125-yard, par-72 East Course at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC.

The Eagles posted a 14th-place finish out of 18 teams with a two-day score of 619 (311-308).  Taking home first place was No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan at 590 (298-292) while Wittenberg (305—293—598) and host Guilford (305-293—598) tied for runner-up honors.  No. 1-ranked Transylvania was fourth with a 601 (297-304) while first-day leader Greensboro rounded out the top five with an effort of 602 (295-307).

Senior Will Roth ended up as the team's top performer, using a strong Monday performance of even-par 72 to finish at seven-over par 151, good for a 20th-place tie in the 90-player field.  Roth's final-round score tied for the fifth-best showing on the day.  Junior Alex Wunderlich tied for 44th place on the leader board with a 154 (75-79) while seniors Alec Berens and Johnathan Chen each carded 157s.  Freshman Colby Hipp rounded out the team's representatives with a 168.

Emory returns to action when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, to play in the Gordin Intercollegiate.
