The Emory golf team concluded play at the Gordin Classic on Tuesday afternoon, posting a ninth-place finish. The 54-hole tourney was held at the 6,968-yard, par-72 Columbus Country Club in Columbus, Ohio.
Competing in a 12-team field, Emory turned in a score of 902 (306-296-300). Claiming the top spot was Wittenberg at 863 (295-287-281) while St. John Fisher finished runner-up with an 876 (285-291-300). Rounding out the top five were Transylvania (877), Methodist University (878) and Guilford (881).
Junior Alex Wunderlich paced the Eagles' effort with an 11-over par 227 (76-76-75) that tied for 33rd place out of 90 players. Senior Will Roth (81-72-75) was one shot behind Wunderlich and ended the Classic tied for 37th. Seniors Johnathan Chen (73-80-76) and Alec Berens (80-75-74) tied for the final Emory scoring spots at 229 while freshman Colby Hipp checked in with a 232 (77-73-82).
Taking home medalist honors was John Chaney of Wittenberg with a four-under 212 (73-71-68).
Emory returns to action, Oct. 7-8, when it plays in the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational at the Royal Lakes Golf Course in nearby Flowery Branch.
