The Emory University golf team plays the third of four fall tournaments next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 7-8) when it competes in the ninth edition of the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational.  The 36-hole tournament will be held at the par-71, 6,845-yard Royal Lakes Golf Course in nearby Flowery Branch.

Sixteen schools will send 17 teams to the event, with six programs finding their way in the Sept. 25 Golf World/Nike Golf Division III College Coaches' Poll. No. 7-ranked and host Oglethorpe will be looking to defend its 2012 title but will have to fend off challenges from a number of strong regional programs. Besides Emory and Oglethorpe, other ranked squads competing include No. 11 Rhodes, No. 18 Greensboro, No. 19 LaGrange and No. 20 Berry.

In its most recent outing, the Eagles recorded a ninth-place finish out of 12 teams at the 54-hole Gordin Classic in Columbus, Ohio.  Junior Alex Wunderlich (Ann Arbor, MI)  was the team's top performer with a three-round effort of 11-over par 227 (76-76-75), good for a 33^rd-place tie in the 90-player field.
