The Emory University golf team closed out its participation at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational Monday afternoon. The 36-hole event was held at the 6,825-yard, par-71 Royal Lakes Golf Course in nearby Flowery Branch.
The Eagles posted a 14th-place finish out of 16 teams with a two-day score of 625 (306-319). Taking home first place was LaGrange College at 575 (289-286) while Averett University (291—298—589) and Berry College (292-297—589) tied for runner-up honors. Host institution Oglethorpe claimed fourth place with a 593 (296-297) while Huntingdon rounded out the top five (290-304—594).
Senior Alec Berens ended up as the team's top performer, closing out with a 152 (73-79) that tied 27th place in the 95-player field. Senior Will Roth was the next Eagle up on the leader board with a 155 (78—77), good for a tie for the 45th position. Rounding out the team's entries were Alex Wunderlich (73-85—158), Johnathan Chen (82-81—163) and Jonathan Gerrard (82-82—164). Taking home medalist honors was LaGrange's Ozborn Theam with a three-under 139 (71-68), one shot ahead of Onni Hurri of Averett.
Emory returns to action when it closes out the fall portion of its schedule, Oct. 13-15, by competing at the Golfweek Division III Invitational in Sandestin, Florida.
