Emory Golf Enjoys Solid First Round At Callaway Gardens Invitational

The Emory golf team turned in a solid opening round at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational Saturday and stand fourth out of 16 squads. The 36-hole tourney is being is being played at the 7,057-yard, par-72 Callaway Gardens Mountain View Course located in Pine Mountain, Georgia. 

The Eagles recorded a score of 302 and trail first-round leader Methodist University's 293.  Oglethorpe stands in the No. 2 spot with a 294 while LaGrange registered a 297.  Rounding out the top five is host Berry College at 304.  

Seniors Johnathan Chen and Alec Berens spearheaded the Emory effort with each player firing a one-over par 73, good for a ninth-place tie in the 101-player field. Berens had an interesting round, going out in five-over 41 before regrouping to shoot a 32 over the back nine.  Junior Alex Wunderlich finished with a 75, good for a 20th-place tie in the field, while senior Will Roth rounded out the team's scorers with an 81.  Freshman Colby Hipp competed and shot an 85.

The final round will be played on Sunday.
