Emory Golf Team Gears Up For UAA Championships

The Emory University golf team returns to action on Sunday and Monday (Mar. 9-10) when it competes at the University Athletic Association Championships.  This year's 36-hole event will be held at the 6,768-yard, par 72 RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida.

Joining Emory in the Championship will be Carnegie Mellon, New York University and the University of Rochester.

Rochester won last year's crown, snapping Emory's two-year streak of winning the title. The Yellowjackets finished with a seven-shot advantage over both Emory and Carnegie Mellon.  UR senior Nick Palladino, last year's conference medalist, returns to bolster that program's bid to defend its crown.

Competing for Emory in this year's event will be seniors Alec Berens, Jonathan Chen and Will Roth, junior Alex Wunderlich and freshman Colby Hipp.  Freshman Sam Nichamin will comoete as an individual.  Berens captured First Team All-UAA honors a year ago after posting a fifth-place finish while Chen and Roth were second-team selections.

Emory enters the UAA Championships with 14 conference titles to its credit.

In Emory's last outing, it posted a fourth-place finish out of 16 teams at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 1-2) in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
