The Emory men's golf team tied for tenth place out of 18 teams at the Navy Spring Invitational. The 36-hole tournament was held at the 6,528, par-71 Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Eagles, the lone Division III school competing in the event, recorded a score of 610 (308-302), tying them with Siena College. Taking home the No. 1 spot was Towson University with a mark of 584 (296-288), eight shots ahead of host Navy (301-291—592). St. Francis (PA) was third at 596 (296-300) while Cornell (303-298—601) and St. Joseph's University (302-300—602) rounded out the top five.
Senior Johnathan Chen led the Emory effort, posting a seven-over par 149 (77-72) that tied him for 17th place in the 90-player field. Freshman Colby Hipp was the next Eagle on the leader board at 153 (72-81) which tied for 38th place. Rounding out the team's competitors were seniors Alec Berens (78-78—156) and Will Roth (81-78—159) and junior Alex Wunderlich (88-74—162).
Taking home medalist honors for the second straight year was Towson State's Joe Gunerman with a three-under 139 (70-69).
The Navy Spring Invitational was the least regular-season competition for Emory.
