Emory Golf Opens Season At Rhodes Collegiate Classic

Emory Golf Opens Season At Rhodes Collegiate Classic

The Emory University golf team opens the fall portion of its 2014-15 schedule this Sunday and Monday (Sept. 14-15) when it competes in Rhodes Collegiate Classic.  The 36-hole tournament will be played on the 7,204-yard par-72 Tunica National Golf Club (MS).

Among the 18 teams that comprise this year's field, four are ranked in the Division III Golf Coaches Association of America Preseason Poll, including No. 8 Transylvania, No. 10 UT-Tyler, No. 13 Southwestern and No. 16 and host Rhodes.  Emory did receive votes in the poll.

Head coach John Sjoberg starts his fourth year at the helm of the program with a roster that features nine returnees from last year's team that captured the University Athletic Association Championships.

One of the players making up the Emory contingent for the Collegiate Classic will be junior Jonathan Gerrard (Highland Park, IL), who looks to become a regular member to the lineup after averaging 75.8 strokes over eight rounds of action a year ago.  Sophomores Luke Lancaster (York, SC) and Sam Nichamin (Brookeville, PA) have also qualified to compete in the season-opening action for the Eagles.  Two new members to the program, freshman Keenan Hickton (Pittsburgh, PA) and junior Alex Lynch (Greenwich, CT), a transfer from Trinity College, round out the Emory representatives.  Junior Vince Sirianni (Blue Bell, PA) will compete as an individual.
