The Emory University golf team closed out its season-opening action at the Rhodes College Fall Classic on Monday afternoon. The 36-hole event was held at the 7,125-yard, par-72 Tunica National Golf Club (MS).
The Eagles tied for 12th place in the 17-team field with a two-day score of 622 (318-304).
Taking home first place was No. 10 UT-Tyler at 583 (299-284) while No. 13 Southwestern University (298—290—588) claimed the runner-up spot. Texas Lutheran (298-292—590), No. 16 Rhodes (295-303—598) and Centre College (310-293—603) rounded out the top five finishers.
Sophomore Sam Nichamin (Brookville, PA) led the team's scoring effort, using a strong Monday performance of one-over par 73 to finish at 153, good for a 34th-place tie in the 99-player field. Nichamin's final-round score tied for the 11th -best showing on the day. Sophomore Luke Lancaster (York, SC) tied for 40th place on the leader board with a 154 (79-75) while junior Jonathan Gerrard (Highland Park, IL) carded a 156 (80-76). Freshman Keenan Hickton posted a 159 (79-80) and junior Alex Lynch (Greenwich, CT) checked in at 170 (89-81).
Junior Vince Sirianni (Blue Bell, PA), competing as an individual, ended up tied for 21st overall with a six-over par performance of 150 that included a second-round showing of even-par 72, making him just one of 10 players to shoot par or better on Monday.
Emory returns to action when it travels to Tyler, Texas, Sept. 29-30, to play in the Al Jones Memorial.
