Emory Golf Winds Up Opening Round At Al Jones Memorial

The Emory University golf team concluded the opening round of action at the Al Jones Memorial Tournament on Monday.  The 36-hole competition is being played at the 6,944-yard, par-71 Cascades Golf Course in Tyler, Texas.

The Eagles stand in seventh place out of nine teams after the first 18 holes of play with a score of 302.  Holding down the No. 1 spot is No. 10-ranked UT-Tyler at 285 while Hardin-Simmons (294) and Washington & Lee (296) are second and third, respectively. 

Pacing the Emory effort was sophomore Sam Nichamin who fired a career-best score of even-par 71 that ties for second place in the 57-player field.  Buddy Hallman of host UT-Tyler sits atop the leader board after carding a solid five-under par 66. 

Junior Vince Sirianni recorded a four-over par 75 that ranks 25th in the field while senior Alex Wunderlich was the next Eagle on the board at 77, which is tied for 34th.  Junior Jonathan Gerrard rounded out the team's scorers with a 79.  Also competing was junior Alex Lynch who ended up with an 84.

The final round of the Al Jones Memorial will be held on Tuesday.
