Emory Golf Finishes Sixth At Al Jones Memorial

The Emory University golf team wound up its participation at the Al Jones Memorial Tournament Tuesday afternoon, recording a sixth-place finish out of nine squads.  The 36-hole competition was played at the 6,944-yard, par-71 Cascades Golf Course in Tyler, Texas.

The Eagles shot a 301 over the final of 18 holes of action to finish at 603.  Taking home first place was No. 10-ranked and host UT-Tyler with a 577 (285-292) while Washington & Lee claimed runner-up honors with a mark of 587 (296-291).  Centenary College placed third at 599 while Mary Hardin-Baylor and Cal Lutheran deadlocked for fourth with scores of 602.

Sophomore Sam Nichamin tied as Emory's top performer with his five over par 147 tying for eighth place overall in the 57 player field.  Senior Alex Wunderlich chopped seven strokes off his first day of play to card a one-under par 70, tying for the second-best mark on the day, to also finish at 147.  Junior Jonathan Gerrard closed out the tourney at 155 (79-76), good for 34th position on the leader board while classmates Vince Sirianni (75-82—157) and Alex Lynch (84-79—163) rounded out the Emory representatives.

Next up for Emory is the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational, Oct. 6-7, at the Royal Lakes Golf Club in nearby Flowery Branch.
