Emory Golf Ties For Ninth At Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate

The Emory University golf team turned in a solid second-round effort on Sunday in registering a ninth-place finish at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate.  The 36-hole tourney was played on the 7,057-yard, par-72 Mountain View Golf Course in Pine Mountain, Ga.

The Eagles carded a second-day score of 303 and finished tied with Berry College for ninth in the 19-team field with a score of 619.  No. 9 LaGrange College took home the top spot with an effort of 589 (297-292) while No. 4 Methodist and No. 14 Guilford finished runner-up at 593. Oglethorpe (298-296--594) and Huntingdon (300-301--601) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Senior Alex Wunderlich (Ann Arbor, MI) and junior Vince Sirianni (Blue Bell, PA) were the Eagles' top performers with each player recording eight-over par 152, good for a 23rd-place tie in the 102-player field.  Wunderlich shot 74-78 while Sirianni turned in marks of 77-75.   Junior Jonathan Gerrard (83-75—158) tied for 57th on the leader board while freshman Keenan Hickton (85-75—160) and junior Jack Williams (82-81—163) also competed for the Eagles.

Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia (72-67—139) finished in first place with Cory Howard of LaGrange (73—69—142) was second.

Emory returns to action, Mar. 8-9, when it looks to defend its title at the University Athletic Association Championships in Sorrento, Florida.
