Emory Golf Tied For Fifth After Opening Round Of Spring Invitational

The Emory men's golf team is tied for fifth place after the opening round of its Spring Invitational.  The 36-hole event is being played at the 7,059-yard, par-72 Barnsley Gardens Resort in Adairsville.

The Eagles are tied with No. 1 Oglethorpe for the fifth slot on the 13-team leader board with each squad wrapping up Monday's action with a mark of 310.  No. 3-ranked Methodist holds down the top spot after the first round with a score of 294, two shots ahead of No. 27 Berry College.  No. 11 Guilford (301) and No. 2 LaGrange (307) are third and fourth, respectively.

Junior Vince Sirianni (Blue Bell, PA) turned in Emory's best score of the day with a three-over par 75, good for a 12th-place tie in the 70-player field.  Senior Alex Wunderlich (Ann Arbor, MI) and freshman Keenan Hickton (Pittsburgh, PA) each finished at 78, tying them for 26th place.  Rounding out Monday's scorers for the Eagles was sophomore Sam Nichamin (Brookville, PA) with an effort of 79.  Also competing on the team side was junior Jonathan Gerrard (Highland Park, IL), who posted an 87, while freshman Matt Csillag (Syosset, NY), playing among the ranks of individuals, checked in with an 84.

Carding the top score of the day was Andrew Thompson of Guilford who fired a two-under par 70.  Berry College's Drew Kosko and Tommy McCloskey are both one shot behind.

The final round will be held on Tuesday (Apr. 7).
