The Emory University golf team turned in a solid second round at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate on Tuesday as it closed out its spring-opening competition.  The 36-hole tourney was played on the 7,016-yard, par-72 Mountain View Golf Course in Pine Mountain, Ga.

The Eagles shot a second-day score of eight-over 296 to post a team total of 610, tying it with Cumberland University for ninth place out of 17 entries.  Emory's effort was the third best mark of the day and allowed it to move up four spots from Monday's finish.

No. 12-ranked Huntingdon brought home first-place honors with a 582 (289-293), with No. 1 Methodist University using a late charge to finish runner-up at 585 (299-286).  No. 4-ranked Oglethorpe was third (293-300--593) while Greensboro took home fourth place with a 597 (291-306).

Freshman Stefano Butti (Palm City, FL) finished as Emory's top scorer with a performance of 149 (74-75) that tied for 16th place in the 96-player field.  Freshman Connor Yakubov (Columbus, OH) was the next Emory player to appear on the leader board finishing at 153 (77-76), good for a 35th-place tie.  Freshman Noah Apter shot the squad's best score of the tourney, firing an even-par 72 that left him at 156.  Freshman Anthony Muscato shaved 11 strokes off his first-round score, recording a 73 that gave him a two-day mark of 157.  Sophomore Keenan Hickton finished at 162 (79-83).

Huntingdon College's Will Thrash captured medalist honors with a three-under par 141 (69-72).

Emory will now turn its attention to the University Athletic Association Championships, which will be held, Mar. 12-13 at the Redtail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida.  The Championships will feature a match-play format with Emory taking on Carnegie Mellon and Rochester battling New York University on Saturday.  The two winners will play for the title on Sunday while the losing teams will compete for third and fourth place.
