Fresh off its first-place performance at the University Athletic Association Championships, the Emory University golf team continues its spring season this weekend (Mar. 18-20) when it competes at the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole event will be played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course and serving as the host institution will be Oglethorpe University.
Emory will be one of 28 teams in this year's talent-stacked field. Four of Division III's top six programs will be in the hunt for the title including No. 1 Methodist, No. 2 Oglethorpe, No 5 Berry College and No. 6 Huntingdon College. All totaled, 13 of the Bushnell Golfweek Top 25 teams will be participating.
With match play being implemented, Emory brought home its fourth UAA title in the past six years, defeating Carnegie Mellon and Rochester. A trio of Eagle freshmen, Stefano Buti, Noah Apter and Anthony Muscato garnered All-Tournament honors with Butti named the Most Valuable Player. In addition, John Sjoberg was named the UAA Coach of the Year.
