The Emory University golf team came through with an outstanding round on the final day of action at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The 36-hole tourney was played at the 6,979-yard, par-72 Wynlakes Golf and Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Eagles finished runner-up out of 12 teams, pacing the field with a second-round score of 289 (team's third-best mark of the year), which left them with a final total of 590. No. 6-ranked and host Huntingdon took home first-place honors with a 584 (294-290) while No. 19 Mary Hardin-Baylor was third (299-302—601).
Freshman Stefano Butti tied Stephen Shephard of Huntingdon for the No. 1 spot on the 63-player leader board, with a two-round effort of 141. The pair advanced to a playoff where Shephard prevailed on the first hole. Butti fired a three-under par 69 on Tuesday, tying for the best mark by any player during the Intercollegiate. Freshman Anthony Muscato posted a two-under 70 while sophomore Keenan Hickton and freshman Noah Apter each carded 75s to close out the team's scoring effort. Freshman Connor Yakubov shot a 77.
For the tournament, Muscato tied for fourth with an even par 144 (74-70), with Yakubov tied for 15th with a showing of 151 (74-77). Hickton and Apter deadlocked for 30th with each player registering scores of 156. Senior Jonathan Gerrard, playing as an individual, shot a 156 (79-77).
Emory returns to action, April 9-10, when it hosts its Spring Invitational at Smoke Rise Country Club.
