No. 12 Emory Golf Completes First Day At NCAA Championships

First Round Results

The Emory University golf team completed its first round of action at the NCAA Division Championships on Tuesday afternoon.  The Eagles' opening day of competition took place on the 6,645, par-71 Mendon Golf Club in Rochester, NY.

Emory finds itself tied for 17th place with Western New England and Oglethorpe University in the 41-team field after registering a 23-over par 307 (Western New England & Oglethorpe played the Midvale Country Club and totaled team scores of  23-over par 311).  Holding down the top spot after the first 18 holes is No. 2-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, who carded a classy two-over par 286 at Mendon.  St. Thomas (MN) is No. 2 on the leaderboard at 13-over par.

Freshman Connor Yakubov (Columbus, OH), who earlier in the day was named a NCAA Division III Ping All-South Region honoree, recorded Emory's top score of the day with a five-over par 76, good for a 52nd-place tie out of 210 players.  Sophomore Keenan Hickton (Pittsburgh, PA), freshman Stefano Butti (Palm City, FL), another All-South Region performer, and rookie Anthony Muscato (Gibsonia, PA) all carded six-over par 77.  Muscato was one of nine players to record an eagle on Tuesday when he reached the fringe of the green in two on the 520-yard, par-5 sixth hole, and then holed a 30-foot putt.  Freshman Noah Apter (Highland Park, IL) shot an 80.

Emory continues play on Wednesday when it is scheduled to tee off at 8:00 am on the 6,632-yard, par-72 Midvale Country Club.
