Emory Golf Second After Opening Round of Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate

The No. 10-ranked Emory University golf team completed its opening round of action at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate on Monday.   The 36-hole tourney is being played at the 6,976-yard, par-72 Mountain View Golf Course in Pine Mountain, Ga.

The Eagles stand second out of 18 teams after the first day of play, registering a team score of 297, just one shot behind No. 1 Huntingdon College's mark of 296. No. 11 LaGrange College holds down third place at 299 while Sewanee (301) is fourth.  Unranked Christopher Newport and the 23rd-ranked Generals of Washington and Lee are tied for fifth at 301.

Emory sophomore Connor Yakubov sits atop the 102-player leader board after the first 18 holes of action, firing a two-under par 70. Yakubov was steady throughout the day, posting three birdies and just one bogey en route to his best round of the season and tying his second-best score as an Eagle.  Freshman Matt Organisak stands tied for 13th place after carding a two-over par 74, while sophomore Noah Apter's performance of three-over par 75 ties for the No. 20 spot.  Junior Keenan Hickton and sophomore Stefano Butti each shot 78.

Harry Nodwell of Christopher Newport and Tommy Oliver of Sewanee are both one shot off Yakubov's pace.

The final round will be played on Tuesday.
