The Emory golf team returns to action this Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 7-8) when it hosts the Discover DeKalb Spring Invitational. The 36-hole tourney will be held at the 6,510-yard, par-70 Smoke Rise Country Club in nearby Stone Mountain.
Emory, ranked 3rd nationally in the most recent Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, will be one of 14 schools that will be competing in this year's event. A total of five competing squads are ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 Poll, including No. 1 Methodist and No. 2 Huntingdon College. Other ranked programs include No. 16 Oglethorpe University and No. 21 Sewanee.
Emory finished second at last year's Invitational, just one shot shy of Huntingdon.
In Emory's most recent outing, it posted a third-place finish out of 16 teams at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate, Mar. 26-27, held at the Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama.
Junior Stefano Butti was named the University Athletic Association Co-Golfer of the Week after pacing the Eagles' contingent with a one-over par 145 (69-76), good for fifth place out of 88 players.
